Wildflowers Tea at The Root Cellar and On The Move Organics
Four sample tubes of Wildflowers Tea local blends, a favourite tea pot, and the best little tea book around: "A Decent Cup of Tea" by the inimitable Malachi McCormick. Read it in the cafe!
Today we are pleased to introduce you to Wildflowers Tea, a small company based out of the St. Thomas area and run by the wonderful Jane Magri, a trained herbalist, master wildcrafter, and all-round lovely person. Wildflowers Teas are hand-blended in small batches, and incorporate many local and organic ingredients to create aromatic and flavourful blends that emphasize the healing and nutritional value of the plants. At The Root Cellar and On The Move Organics we carry four local blends, as well as the Balance Series, which offers healing through the Ayurvedic principles of holism. Wildflowers teas are free of caffeine and additives, making them a truly beneficial drink.
As Jane writes, “Herbal infusions have been used for centuries for their healing benefits. At Wildflowers Tea, we hope to bring this ancient tradition back into the lives of many by creating refreshing, stimulating, relaxing, and nourishing blends so we can all enjoy the healing qualities these plants offer.”
We offer the following blends in the cafe, our market booth, and through the OTMO home delivery system (check the custom order spreadsheet).

GREENS (Alfalfa, Burdock Root, Fennel, Nettle, Oat Straw, Plantain, Spearmint)
Greens Tea contains no green tea plant (Camellia Sinensis) but is made up of all our glorious local greens and common yard “weeds.” Our local multi-vitamin blend, it is packed full of vitamins and minerals, with high traces of calcium, iron, magnesium, protein and potassium… to name a few. This blend is designed by our local farmacy — using what we have growing within a mile of us. Drink in the minerals, or add this to foods as a garnish, or use the infusion in soups, rices, or smoothies, etc. The possibilities are endless!
CALM (Lavender, Lemon Balm, Nettle, Scullcap)
A calming blend that is ideal before bed. A lovely combination of familiar fragrant lavender and anti-anxiety herbs to soothe the nervous system, designed to create a sense of calm. This blend helps to “take off your thinking cap” which helps to ensure a good night’s rest. Your nervous system will thank you.

DEFENSE—NEW at The Root Cellar and perfect for the coming winter! (Catnip, Lemon Balm, Thyme, Yarrow)
This all-natural herbal blend supports the immune system to defend against the stresses of viral invasion. Drink in this line of defense at the first signs of feeling run-down. Nature has our back in this fantastic blend which helps to calm the nervous system so our immune system can do its work. Anti-bacterial and diaphoretic actions help raise the internal temperature.
VATA (Cardamom, Chamomile, Fennel, Ginger, Holy Basil, Hops, Licorice)
A sweet, floral and slightly spicy blend that warms the body and calms the mind. The Vata dosha is characterized by creativity, mental quickness, fast movements, dryness, coldness, roughness, excitability, and high energy. An imbalanced Vata person responds to stress with fear and anxiety, has racing thoughts, hypertension, and is generally anxious. Our Vata Balance tea is meant to calm the mind and warm the body to balance the Vata constitution.
PITTA (Calendula, Hibiscus, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rose Petals, Red Clover, Shatavari)
A refreshing floral minty blend that cools the body and calms the mind. The Pitta dosha is characterized by a medium physique, sharp mind, strong focus, competitiveness, strong appetite, good leadership abilities, and a dominant personality. Imbalance in a Pitta person manifests as irritability, increases in body heat, discomfort in warm weather, excessive perspiration, and a tendency towards the premature thinning of hair. The Pitta Balance tea is meant to cool the body and calm the mind, reducing irritability and discomfort.
KAPHA (Cardamom, Fennel, Ginger, Holy Basil, Licorice, Orange Peel, Rooibos, Sage Pepper)
A warming, energizing blend, which is spicy and robust. A great coffee replacement without the caffeine. The Kapha dosha is characterized by loyalty, a strong and large physique, a strong appetite, oily skin, easy-going nature, and discomfort in damp environments. An imbalance in a Kapha person results in weight gain, lethargy, oily hair, congestion, and lack of motivation. Our Kapha balance tea is meant to energize the body and bring Kapha back into balance.
BERRY GOOD (Blackberry Essence, Licorice Root, Orange Slices, Raspberries, Raspberry Essence, Roobios)
A flavanoid rich blend that is refreshing and good for you. A brilliant blend of berries and red rooibos, which is sweet, rich, and energizing. A great summer drink.
Try this as a cold-brew iced tea by steeping 7-10 tsp tea in 6 cups of water for 4-6 hours in the fridge.
Brewing tips: steep 1 tsp of loose leaf tea per 1 cup of hot water in a tea ball or fillable tea bag until it reaches the desired strength. (The stronger the infusion, the more health benefits relayed to the tea).
And finally, for the intuitive among you, try your hand at the ancient art of tasseography, the reading of tea leaves. The website Mojomoon is a good place to start your interpretation.
Jane will be joining us in the cafe for a tea talk and tasting in the next little while, so stay tuned for more details!
