We are excited to share the latest On The Move news with you: we have been selected as finalists for a London Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Award in the Environmental Leadership category! This is a huge honour for us, and we'd like to extend our gratitude to all of our customers for supporting us as we navigate the challenges of the triple bottom line--valuing people and the planet, and not just profit.
After finding out about our nomination, we were required to submit an application detailing all of our ecologically conscious business policies and actions. So many of the sustainable business decisions we make at OTMO and The Root Cellar are done without a second thought, so writing this application was a great exercise in reflection for us. Suffice to say, when we sat down and worked our way back through the last five years of the business, thinking about all the effort first Jeff and then the whole team have taken to run our business as sustainably as possible, we came up with quite a list! Some actions are pretty huge, like our commitment to sourcing the bulk of our produce from certified organic, local and small-scale farms, or our commitment to composting all of the organic waste produced through The Root Cellar, the juice bar, and the home delivery program instead of sending it to the landfill. Some actions are pretty small, like how we trim off the bottom of all paper invoices to use as scrap note paper, or how we use natural cleaning products and biodegradable juice cups. Regardless of their relative scale, however, they all represent our desire to be environmental stewards as well as business owners.
Perhaps the most important aspect of writing our application was that we were able to crystallize all of these actions into an Environmental Policy. In the name of transparency (we know you'll hold us accountable!), we thought we'd share this with you. Access our Environmental Policy here.
Check back at the end of March to find out if we won!
