LOLA Bees (London, ON)
521 Burbrook Place, London, ON, N5W4B5
LOLA Bees (London Ontario Learning Apiary) was founded in Spring 2019 by Ellie Cook (The Root Cellar, On The Move Organics), Jeff Pastorius (The Root Cellar, On The Move Organics) and Marianne Griffith (Green Economy London, Building Better Foundation). Named after Ellie and Jeff's daughter, Lola, this project is the sweet culmination of almost a decade's worth of honey bee passion!
Located in a vacant lot on Burbrook Ave, LOLA Bees had very humble beginnings - four Langstroth beehives hidden behind a pallet fence. Over the summer, Ellie and Marianne learned the ins and outs of natural urban beekeeping, and made plans for expanding the project and involving the community. In Fall 2019, LOLA Bees was selected as the top project to fund for Central London through the City of London's Neighbourhood Decision Making program! With this funding, LOLA Bees is developing an urban pollinator sanctuary & learning space, with native pollinator gardens, more beehives, public murals and programming.
