Raincoast Trading, Wildcaught Albacore Tuna (Canned) - 150g
Each albacore tuna is sourced from British Columbia or the US West Coast and is caught by surface trolling or pole and line. That means one barbless hook attached to a pole on the back of the boat. There's no longlining or deepwater trolling with it's horrendous rate of bycatch. That's the fishery industry's euphism for the billions of unwanted sea turtles, dolphins, sharks, seabirds and non-commercially valuable fish that are "inadvertently" caught by such unsustainable methods, and then returned to the sea either dead or dying. Consequently, Raincoast Trading albacore tuna is is Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified and considered "BEST CHOICE" by organizations like Ocean Wise , and Seafood Watch.
In fact, each can of Raincoast tuna has a production code on the bottom that can trace the origin of the fish inside, identifying the vessel, captain, harvest method, area of capture and trip dates. That's their commitment to sustainability.
