Cabbage is slightly cooling to the stomach and it therefore counters overheated conditions, such as inflammation and dry throat. It nourishces the spleen-pancreas, regulates the stomach and relieves abdominal spasms, pain and ulcers (don't over boil or may have the opposite effect). It treats constipation, the common cold, mental depression, and irritability. The Romans used cabbage as a hang over cure!
Cabbage can be eaten raw in a slaw, cooked in soups, simmered, sauteed, steamed or baked. Pickling cabbage or mildly fermenting it makes for a wonderful sauerkraut.
