One of the founding principals of The Root Cellar and On the Move Organics is to strengthen the bond between supply and demand in our food system - to take the relationship forged between farmer and eater back to its roots. We believe that to truly appreciate where our food is coming from, we need to understand the trials and triumphs of the folks who labour away growing, nurturing, and supplying the ingredients we celebrate so much. The journey of our food -- from the farmers and the folks to distribute the food (in our case, our family at On the Move Organics), to our restaurant staff who carefully prepare and present the completed meals, and finally to you - the diners -- is a complex yet beautiful one.
We are thrilled to announce that our friends at Mazak Farms will be collaborating with us to kick off our 2018 dining series! Sarah and Barry Mazak currently operate Mazak Farms - an organic asparagus farm located in Talbotville which has been in operation for nearly two decades. Taking over the farm from Sarah's parents (Rick and Mary), the Mazak family works hard in the seemly short asparagus season. To those eagerly awaiting the taste of those crisp, delicate greens the season almost seems like a moment in time - but for our friends at Mazak Farms there is so much put into those emerald spears.
Join on us on Wednesday May 23 at 6PMfor a chance sit down with Sarah and Barry to discover what their lives as seasonal organic farmers are truly like. Chef Paul Harding and his staff will be preparing a 5-course organic meal including bread service and beer/wine pairings that features organic asparagus sourced from Mazak Farms. This community-centric, organic meal will be $90+tax with all drink pairings, bread service, and gratuity included in the ticket price.
